the Generation Equality Lab

The GEL was launched in autumn 2023 as research lab that applies cutting-edge feminist theorising and social science methodologies to pressing policy questions in global politics. At the GEL students will work closely with academic colleagues on all aspects of the research process—building theory, collecting and analysing data, and sharing findings with the academic and policy communities.

About

The GEL is directed by Toni Haastrup, Professor & Chair in Global Politics at the University of Manchester.

Teaching + training

At the heart of what we do. Specifically, the GEL will provide affiliated students with essential knowledge, theories and concepts in critical feminisms to provide the context to provide policy interventions to. Students will (co) author academic articles; briefs; dossiers and rapid responses to developments in global governance of gender thus developing critical writing skills.

Combining teaching and training creates more comprehensive and holistic learning experience for student to acquire knowledge and the opportunity to apply that knowledge, develop skills, and gain practical experience. In this way, students will develop a deeper understanding, higher retention, and improved transferability of learning.
